Studies have been carried out in Georgia to determine the windiest locations and where it might be profitable to install new wind farms. The Gori site was the best place for the first implementation of a wind farm. Today, Georgian companies are looking to establish a second and third wind farm equivalent to the Gori wind farm, which produces 88 million kilowatt hours of energy per year.
Wind energy is new in Georgia. Technology and know-how come from Europe, as do wind turbines themselves. The EBRD financed 70 % of the Gori wind farm. The investment for these six wind turbines was EUR 26.4 million.
